As practioners of Tribal traditional knowledge, we uphold and adhere to the original instructions of our cultures, which clearly outline our responsibility for maintaining and reestablishing the integrity of our life-ways and for reversing the destruction of the planet and our human universe. We must assist young people to respond to life not just with one's intellect, but also with one's whole personality. That it is the responsibility of educators to remove obstacles that prevent the expression of inherent genius. Therefore, we believe that the role of education is to honor these qualities in a respectful way. These children already possess qualities of human excellence, such as insight, wisdom, justice, resourcefulness, courage, and originality. It is our belief that all children are gifted, and that the child has full potentialities to love life. Our philosophy maintains an uncompromising reverence for life and a respect for the individual. We have identified practices that really work, and all we propose to do is put them together in a way that brings forth the essential elements of quality learning experiences and makes them available to every child. What we are presenting is based on the most current early childhood educational research. This philosophy challenges current assumptions and proposes a comprehensive approach to transformative learning. The educational philosophy of the Colville Confederated Tribes Head Start Program honors and nurtures the natural growth processes and development of our children and adults. For Head Start (Ages 3-5), Socializations are held either every-other week or every week (depending on location), and a meal is provided for enrolled children.About Us | Eligibility | Events/News | Language | Employment & Training | Directory | Forms.There is a parent/child activity time (activities are set out for parents and children to do together).Families can request visits by their Family Advocate if they're experiencing a difficult family situation, crisis, or would like help with family goals.Staff will assist in completing a Family Partnership Agreement which helps identify family strengths, resources need, and family goals.Sibilings who are not enrolled are included as much as possible.Each home visit is 1 1/2 hours long, but can be longer. Appointment times are on a regular schedule and take into account work and school schedules.Parents help plan the visits, share their observations and help set child goals.Special parent-planned events (Family Nights, Neighborhood Tours, Field Trips, etc.).Parent meetings for sharing and planning.Opportunities to interact with other parents and children in a classroom setting.Lesson plans specifically designed for you child to get him/her ready for Kindergarten.Weekly 1 1/2 hour visits in your home jointly planned by parents and a trained Home Visitor.For families where at least one caregiver is home during the day.įamilies receive weekly home visits and regular socializations.
